Acura Dominates the Streets: Front Row Lockout at IMSA’s Detroit GP

In Detroit, the slippery track surface has been the main story for IndyCar and IMSA Weathertech Sportscar series this weekend. The hope is that with each track session, more rubber will be laid down to reduce the slips and slides seen during practice and qualifying, especially on the technical street circuit.

Nick Yelloly secured pole position for IMSA’s Saturday race, navigating the challenging surface with a lap time of 1:05.762 in the #93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb Agajanian car. Yelloly’s precise driving even resulted in a few brushes with the wall, showcasing his skill.

Despite challenges, Yelloly’s MSR teammate, Tom Blomqvist, also put in a strong performance, qualifying alongside Yelloly on the GTP front row. However, other contenders like the #7 Porsche Penske Motorsport and both Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillacs faced setbacks during qualifying due to track conditions.

In the GTD Pro class, Sebastian Priaulx claimed pole position for the #64 Ford Multimatic car, navigating the unforgiving Detroit circuit. Despite a red flag interrupting qualifying, Priaulx managed to secure the front row alongside his teammate, Chris Mies, setting the stage for an exciting race on Saturday.
